The Middleman- It's so unique, clever and quirky that it's surprising that it's on national television, much less ABC family. Chock full of pop culture references, sarcastic wit, interesting characters and comic violence, the show's genre is terribly hard to define. What's certain is that it works.
The sets and special effects show the limited budget that this show has. While some crime scenes are purposely goofy looking, sometimes it is easy to wonder what the show would look like with a bigger budget. Despite many the many fight scenes, this show is not gory by any means. Also, while it might seem like something that is okay to watch with younger kids, small moments or comments made by the characters bump up the rating.
Overall, it is the writing and the characters that make this show.
